Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, located in Leh, India, is a significant military and civilian airport serving a region with historical territorial disputes in northern India. Situated in the Trans-Himalayan region, the airport is one of the highest in the world, at an elevation of 3,256 meters (10,682 feet) above sea level. 

The airport has become a vital hub for civilian and military aviation, serving as a lifeline and protective outpost to the remote and strategically important Ladakh region. Its challenging terrain and high-altitude conditions have made it a focal point for testing aircraft performance and refining operational techniques in extreme environments. Both commercial airliners and military aircraft navigate this unique airspace, which demands exceptional skill and precision.

Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport regularly sees various military aircraft, including fixed-wing transport planes like the C-17 Globemaster III, Il-76 and CH47s. Leh has historically hosted M2K squadrons during periods of high tension.
